IDCS -Elective Unit - DEE008 - E-Commerce

Introduction

The most topical subject in the IT and Business worlds at present is Electronic Commerce. This dynamic and changing discipline is as much about business management as technology issues and for candidates wishing to enter either of these environments a sound knowledge of the topic is essential.  

The E-Commerce syllabus is intended to provide the candidate with a thorough understanding of the major issues associated with the development of e-commerce solutions and applications particularly in relation to both the business and commercial considerations and the technical requirements.

A2.Describe the development of e-commerce in the context of historical technological developments.

A3.Describe the development of e-commerce in the context of historical business developments.

Objective B: The Technical Components of an E-Commerce System

B1.Explain the communications options common to all forms of e-commerce.

B2.Describe e-commerce standards on both a general and specific e-commerce application level.

B3.Demonstrate the software driving the specific e-commerce applications.  

Objective C: Business to Business E-Commerce

C1.Identify the business considerations behind the birth and development of Business to Business e-commerce solutions.

C2.Explain the business and technical background of Electronic Data Interchange (EDI).

C3.Explain the business and technical background of Enhanced Messaging Services.

C4.Describe the use of Integrated Systems technically and commercially within businesses.  

Objective D: The Supply Chain and E-Commerce 

D1.Identify the component parts of the supply chain.

D2.Explain the business benefits of e-commerce to stock control.

D3.Describe the concept of just in time delivery and the use of e-commerce to satisfy it.

D4.Identify the e-commerce solutions to transportation and warehousing within the supply chain.

E1.Describe the various models for conducting e-commerce over the internet.

E2.Identify and demonstrate the e-commerce tools, which enable business to consumer e-commerce.

E3.Explain the different payment options available to e-commerce systems.

E4.Describe the importance and methodology of integrating back office systems to the business to consumer e-commerce solution.

E5.Explain the security issues arising out of conducting e-commerce over the internet.  

Objective F: Building an E-Commerce Web Site (Theory)  

F1. Explain the business considerations behind developing an e-commerce web site.

F2. Explain the technical considerations behind developing an e-commerce web site.

F4. Demonstrate how to set up hosting arrangements and support for an e-commerce web site.

F5. Demonstrate the different marketing options available for use within e-commerce web site.

F6. Explain the legal issues concerning a building an e-commerce web site.
