IDCS -Elective Unit - DEE007 -  Multimedia

Introduction

This module is aimed at exploring the techniques involved in the design of effective multimedia interactive systems. Emphasis is placed on understanding the concepts of multimedia and its application.  

On completion of this Module, candidates should be able to demonstrate proficiency in the essential elements of multimedia development.

Objective A: Multimedia and its Components

A1.Discuss the definitions and perceptions of multimedia.

A2.Identify the components of multimedia technologies.

A3.List compression techniques and multimedia standards.

Objective B: Benefits and Uses of Multimedia in Business, Education and Entertainment  

B1. Identify and describe the use and benefits of multimedia in business applications.

B2.Identify and describe the use and benefits of multimedia in education.

B3.Identify and describe the use and benefits of multimedia entertainment and provision of Information.

Objective C: Devices and Software Used to Produce Multimedia Applications  

C1.List Multimedia hardware including sound card, CD-ROM, display technologies, MMX chips, etc.

C2.Identify and describe the types of multimedia authoring tools and other software used for painting and drawing, image editing, sound editing, animation, video and digital movies, etc.  

Objective D: Designing Multimedia Applications

D1. Explain the steps involved in creating multimedia applications.

D2. Discuss the principles of interactive and screen design.

D3. List general design considerations.

D4.Discuss the uses of drawing, clip art and still images.

D5.List the advantages and limitations of using moving digital images.

E1. Explain the use of sound, animation, video and colour.

E2.Apply various techniques used for capturing and editing moving digital images.

F1.Explain web based Multimedia.
